Important Names in Early Settler History
Introduction
It is easy to get confused by the names of all the early settlers. The sheet hopes to clear some of that up.
Thomas Macy
He is credited with being one of the first whites to settle on the island, along with his wife Sarah and their five children.
51 years old when he arrives in November/October of 1659.
The Macys spent that first winter near Warrens Landing.

He traveled with Macy and his family and stayed that first winter. Was about as old as Macy and lived two miles away. The Natives liked him and he learned how to speak Algonquin. Nickanoose gave him Coatue.

James later leaves, returns to the Merrimack valley, marries, and then comes to the island as a Judge.
