In the Harkness discussion a great amount was stated regarding the current moral standings of modern day America. We successfully expanded out conversation out from the ethics of school administrations ,to the fact that we are never free from the world`s scrutiny. This one of the main points that Ian made in the discussion. One example given to was that at some job interviews the employer asks to view a potential employee`s Face Book to check for documentation of elicit activities. This is also connected to the right of scholarship organizations to conduct similar examinations. From here we then expanded the discussion out to compare the importance of a student not taking part in such activities as drinking or doing drugs, as compared to an employee. It was decided that it made for sense for an employer to check for such things because they depend so heavily on their worker to be productive and help out the company. If they came to work drunk it would injure the company, not just the individual, as it does with a student. After this Ian brought up the point that the Ethicist stated that all children are ignorant and stupid and thus should be forgiven for their mistakes. The discussion expanded on from there when Jessica and Rouri gave examples of how important members of sports teams are saved from punishment due to the fact that the team needs hem so much to succeed. I believe that all students should get equal punishment for taking part in elicit activities, wether they are on a sports team or not. As far as the ethics behind administration checking people`s Face Book`s for the soul purpose of finding if elicit material is posted, I see no problem in it. You sign an agreement saying that the material you post is public. If you choose to post a picture of you getting drunk at a party then you obviously want people to see it. If it is your school`s administration that see`s it then technically you are getting the attention you sought. We did a great job at keeping on track with our discussion but out weakness could be pinpointed on the two or three people that refused to contribute. Maybe they need to do Socratics because they are not at the point of comfort everyone else is.

i don't think that it is right for teachers to be checking up on their students on their myspaces and facebooks to make sure that they are not doing anything that they shouldn't be doing. Yes, I think that the parents should have the right to be able to look at their child's myspace or facebook to check up on what they are doing. This is for the reason to see what their children are doing i their spare time or when they are at parties. Even so, if a parent is a teacher and sees their child drinking along with their friends who are either their students or if they are on a sports team why would they want to get both their kid and their friends in trouble don't you think that they would like to reprimand them instead of letting the school take it into their own hands. I also think that they are invading the students private life with their school life. Like if you got caught drinking at a school function then yes they should be punished for it but from going to a party outside of school it shouldn't matter and not have anything to do with them. Life is life and kids are going to do what they want to do and if they want to go and get drunk at a party they will have to deal with the consequences and then eventually learn from their mistakes. How else are you going to learn or experience things if you don't make mistakes, Everyone needs to make mistakes in their life so they can learn and when they are placed in that position once again they will now how to handle the situation, This is why I think that teenagers need to make mistakes and learn from them so they can experience and grow in life.

During the discussion in class today, we discussed whether it was ethical to intrude into face book and my space to bust teens for activity they were not supposed to be doing. I feel that the administration in school were over reacting and should not have intruded into privacy as they have. Administrations who only worry about the students who do some things they are not supposed to be doing should be worrying about the grades that the students are getting. Also, the administration is not acting ethical because of they reasons that they are doing these things. They may be doing all the right things, for all the wrong reasons. If you care, punishment is not directly linked to the reason. If you donšt care, you simply punish without due process or send them to their parents for more trouble. Ethical defined by Google; pertaining to moral philosophy; the principles of conduct governing an individual or a group. The administration is only acting on personal interests and self-goals; they are not being moral. Morality implies care and respect. The people who interfere are breaking respect in private business. The outcome of the intrusion is not in the interests of the children. If the administration cared, they would try to help, they only try to punish. The discussion worked out well and we were agreeable on most terms. We also talked about what the teachers should be focusing and how they would feel if we mirrored the actions.
