Challenges
Each term, you will be required to do a minimum of
120 challenges. A total of less than 120 will result in a 64 grade for the term, before homework penalties. However, for every ten challenge points above 100, a point will be added to your average. You may add a total of 8 points (or 80 challenge points) during one term.Challenge points must be earned individually. Two people may not earn challenge points for one project.
Challenges may be accrued from doing the following activities.
Word games and puzzles
Articles from "Quo Vadis"
Video Challenges
Book Challenges
Word Games and Puzzles are photocopied and left in the classroom for you to pick up. These are worth one or two points
Articles from "Quo Vadis" have been selected at the beginning of the term for their appropriateness to the work. You will only receive credit for this terms challenges. Generally, you need to answer all questions. In certain instances, you may do less. I will select those instances. I will also decide whether an answer is complete or not. These articles are worth between 5 and 10 points,
Many articles and stories have no questions. A one page journal entry connecting the story to our work in class will suffice for challenge points.
Some challenge articles offer an extra essay. This will be evaluated on length, where a one page, thoughtful answer will receive five points of challenge. I will decide on the relative length and thought.
Other Articles;
I will, occasionally, put together a packet of relevant articles. You do not need to do the entire packet in order to receive credit. Sometimes, I will assign these articles by e-mail.
Note: I have withdrawn the electronic articles from consideration.
Video Challenges
Occasionally, I will offer a video for challenge points. You could watch the video, then write a one page journal entry for the challenge points. Generally, the movies are worth 15 challenge points. You may do one of these a term.
Book Challenges:
Book challenges have the highest worth. In order to do one, you need to select a book and then have it approved. When it is approved, the title should be written on the inside of your folder and I will initial it. No books will receive challenge points if I have not approved and initialled them ahead of time.
After you read the book, you need to do a project on the book. You need to fully complete the project in order to receive credit. Incomplete projects will receive no credit
