Mythology
The freshmen will begin their study of literature with a thorough reading of some of the foundation works of western literature. Works include: Hamilton's Mythology, Odyssey, Antigone, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and A Midsummer Night's Dream

This is a somewhat dry work that catelogues the greek myths. These sites should add more life.
- Mythology. This is great site that gives an overview to all of the greek myths. Nice art.
- The Perseus Project Everything you need for Greek myths and history.
- The Hellenic Page. This is an unbelievable site with sources for all things Greek. Great archaelogy, myths and everything else.
- Myths and Legends. This site offers a comprehensive approach to all world myths.
- Campbell. Joseph Campbell taught a revolutionary approach to the myths, one that I use in my classes
- Encyclopedia Mythica An encyclopedia for myths, fairies, legends and what not. Good non-greek source.
- Ovid The source of most of Hamilton's Myths is Ovid. This under-construction site will offer many pictures to go with the text.
- Diogenes. This is an incredibly thoughtful, well put together page that has everything on the ancient world.
- The Greek Tourist. One of many modern Greek websites. Check out the pictures.
- Aesop Aesop's Fables, with some additions from students.
Homer's Odyssey
This is the story that is the source of all things. Nonetheless, it is not an easy work. These sites should help understanding.
- Chapman's Homer. Chapman was one of the first to translate the Odyssey into English. This is very different from you version, but very good.
- Ithaki. Ithaka, of course, is the home of Odysseus. This site gives a modern day overview.
- Iliad. Homer's other famous work is the Iliad. Check out the comments.
- Must Read. Homer is Must Reading for Everyone is an interesting article from Cornell.
- Introduction this introduction to The Odyssey was written for college freshman, but contains a lot of useful information.
Sophocles Antigone
This is a popular greek play, often used in high school.
- Greek Plays. This site offers an overview of Greek plays and drama.
- Antigone. This is the text. Look at the comments
Coleridge The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
This is a great, nautical poem.
- Coleridge. This is a high end site with poems and criticism.
- Illustrations. These are the amazing illustrations from Dore for Rime.
- Kubla Kahn. One of his other, more famous, poems.
- Albatross From New Zealand, a lovely picture of an Albatross.
- Gilligan's Island Play the theme music and put the words to Rime into it. Unbelievable.
