Courage

Introduction

For the last three years, I have tried to organize and think through my classes using the concepts of courage and respect.

Definition

I define Courage as

The strength to attempt tasks

that are hard for you to do.

Example

You show courage if you stand in front of a class to recite a poem you have memorized, particularly if you don’t like to perform in front of people.

Example #2

You show courage when you write a journal entry about something you don’t understand completely.

Non-Example

You summarize the plot of the work instead of thinking of new things to write.

Respect

Introduction

Respect is the second building block to this class.

Respect

I define Respect as

Treating others as well or better than you would like to be treated.

Example

If someone insults you in class, you show respect by not responding in kind.

Example #2

You show respect by being patient with someone who may not know as much as you do.

Non-example

You don’t show respect by silently excluding someone in your group because you don’t like them.
