Juniors Finale
In my tradition of bizarre and unusual behavior, I have designed the following final. The goals of this final are:
- Students will be able to verbally tie all the works we studied together
- Students will be able to interpret art, poetry, and essays
- Students will be able to write and reflect on the works and the discussion
Phase One: Preparation
Pick three of the following works and prepare them fully for class. By "prepare" I mean that you should have read or viewed the works and written one page of notes. These notes should show how the work can link to other works and how they fit into your view of the works.
The Works
Examine three of the following works. Pick one picture, one poem, and one essay.
Poems and Fiction
Pictures
Essays
Phase Two: Socratic
The second part of the final will involve the Socratic Seminars. On Monday, Group A will discuss the works they prepared for a half hour. The remaining fifteen minutes will allow Group B to write notes.
On Tuesday, Group B will discuss their three works for a half hour, followed by Group A's time to write notes.
Phase Three:Writing
The final part of the final will involve writing. Students will come to class on Wednesday and write a thorough, personal essay involving the discussion they witnessed, several of the works they studied, and a personal anecdote.
