One on One
In AP British Studies, we will examine central question of difference. Can one person make a difference in the world?. Authors include: Homer, Conrad, Eliot, Sartre, Milton and Beowulf. At the end of the course, we will be doing the Difference Project.
Essays We have written the following essays.
Homer's Odyssey
This is the story that is the source of all things. Nonetheless, it is not an easy work. These sites should help understanding.
- Chapman's Homer. Chapman was one of the first to translate the Odyssey into English. This is very different from you version, but very good.
- Ithaki. Ithaka, of course, is the home of Odysseus. This site gives a modern day overview.
- Iliad. Homer's other famous work is the Iliad. Check out the comments.
- Must Read. Homer is Must Reading for Everyone is an interesting article from Cornell.
- Introduction this introduction to The Odyssey was written for college freshman, but contains a lot of useful information.
Joseph Conrad: Heart of Darkness
- Conrad wierd's out This is a heavy graphics pages with some quotes and some interest. Check out the mask.
- The Congo This is a short informational section on the modern country.
- Heart of Darkness Homepage This is a great page with information on the book and on Apocalypse Now. Kafka has a lot to do with Conrad as well.
Cyrano de Bergerac This great, odd play.
T.S. Eliot: In class we will do a smattering of "The Wasteland," all of "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," and all of "The Hollow Men."
John Milton Paradise Lost This work has been a major challenge for my students, but well worth the effort in the end.
James Joyce: Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Just an amazing, mind blowing novel that requires as much help as humanly possible.

- irish Mythology Sometimes you need to know who Finn MacCool was.
